## Verified facts (checked September 2026)

- Mytikas 2,918 m (2022 survey: 2,917.7 m) is the highest point of Olympus and of Greece. Stefani (the Throne of Zeus)
  and Skolio are both just over 2,900 m; sources disagree on which is higher. Skala about 2,870 m.
- Greece's first national park (1938); UNESCO Biosphere Reserve (1981); Natura 2000 GR1250001; the Greater Olympus
  Area was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list (mixed site) in July 2026.
- No park entry ticket or summit permit for hikers as of September 2026 (a 2021 draft fee was shelved). Rules may
  change after the UNESCO listing.
- Road: Litochoro to Prionia about 18 km, paved, to about 1,100 m, the highest point reachable by car. No cable car.
- Prionia to Refuge A (Spilios Agapitos, about 2,100 m): 6 km, 1,000 m up, about 3 h. Refuge A to Mytikas via Skala:
  3 km, about 820 m up, about 3 h. Prionia to Mytikas one way: 11.5 km, 1,830 m, about 7 h (Refuge A figures).
- Skala to Mytikas (Kakoskala) is a short, exposed scramble; Louki is a steeper gully scramble. Helmets advised;
  guided groups use helmet, harness and rope. The hike to Refuge A, Skala and Skolio needs no scrambling.
- Two days with a night at Refuge A is the standard; a one-day return is roughly 11 to 12 h.
- Refuge A open mid-May to late October (110 beds). Kakkalos refuge 2,648 m (17 places); Apostolidis 2,697 m.
- Summit season June to September; the high zone holds snow about nine months a year.
- Enipeas gorge path (E4, Litochoro to Prionia) damaged by Storm Daniel floods in September 2023: broken bridges and
  river crossings; described as impassable at points in June 2026. No official closure notice found.
- First recorded ascent: 2 August 1913, Frederic Boissonnas and Daniel Baud-Bovy with Christos Kakkalos of Litochoro.
- Litochoro is about 90 km from Thessaloniki and just over 400 km from Athens.

## Corrections to claims found elsewhere

- Day trips called 'Mount Olympus tour' from Thessaloniki or Athens stay in the foothills (below about 1,100 m);
  they do not climb the mountain.
- The Throne of Zeus is Stefani, not Mytikas.
- There is no cable car and no road to the summit; the road ends at Prionia.
- There is no entry fee in force; figures quoted online come from a shelved 2021 draft.
- Mytikas is not an easy walk-up: the last section is an exposed scramble.
- The Acropolis is in Athens, not on Mount Olympus; Noah's Ark tradition belongs to Mount Ararat in Turkey.
